The value of the book can be estimated from the following reviews:
Review of the first edition
“The book is targeted primarily to meet the needs of undergraduates of medicine and nursing students. The author brings to this book his rich and extensive teaching experience in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. The book begins with a chapter on History of Psychiatry, containing several simple and appealing figures. In fact, the figures and diagrams are a hallmark of the book. They are present throughout and make the text rather easy to read, particularly in chapters on 'Substance Abuse', 'History of Psychiatry' and ‘Schizophrenia'. The well-written chapter on 'Normality and Abnormality' is a useful introduction to the subject for undergraduate students. In the chapter on ‘The Psychiatric Examination' the author has appended the History and Examination format practiced in his hospital. Interestingly, a complete chapter is devoted to 'Epilepsy'. Two chapters are devoted to an exhaustive discussion on psychiatric nursing”.

Review of the second edition
“Concise textbook of psychiatry is an honest attempt by the learned author to cover the vast area of psychiatry into a handy book, which is able to meet the needs of not only undergraduate students of Medicine and Psychiatric nursing but also for other students of related mental health professions like clinical psychology and psychiatric social work. The author in a precised form in the book has intelligently covered almost all the topics, without failing to leave any important aspect related to the subject…”.
